Lunches, Baby Stuff

March 17th, 2013 at 09:23 pm

Sorry, it’s been quite awhile (again) since I last wrote. Pregnancy sure takes a lot of energy. I did make my short term goal in January (eating out less than 25% of the time for lunch). I also kept up at the 75% mark of packing lunches for February.

Right now in March, I’m at 70% packed, 30% eat out. This last week was what brought me down as I ate out all week. I didn’t want to be in the office and the time shift was killing me. We will be going grocery shopping here in a few hours so I can get some simple, grab-and-go meals for the next week or two.

In other news, we sold the junker in prep for my husband to be the stay-at-home dad. It just needed too many fixes that would add up fast. We’ve also refilled the emergency fund (partially depleted from junker purchase last year), puppy fund (wiped out from puppy’s surgery), and the car fund (wiped out from junker). Woot!

We also have quite a bit saved up for baby stuff. We have a few of the basic things. I will just need to get the first-aid and grooming kit, plain/neutral clothing for the first month or so, the stroller that we’ve drooling over, and I think that is all we -need- pre-baby still. I’m sure there will be other stuff we will need or want to buy, but as of the moment, I’m not too worried about it. And even if we bought everything on the baby registries, we have enough cash. But some of that stuff we put on as a mild-want, even though we don’t need it.

Be sure to check the second hand baby stores for the stroller first! I found the same jogging stroller I'd been eyeballing for half the price at a second-hand consignment shop.

I hope you understand that he reason we often suggest gently used items for infants is due to the fact that babies grow so fast they often outgrow items before they even get used. Try putting a 'WANTED' ad in CraigsList or Buy/Sell on-line in your city for the brand & style name of stroller desired and check response. If your community has a consignment shop for newborn to preschool shop, they are a good source of immaculate, hardly used equipment and cute togs.

You can also sell the items you found impracticable. You aren't obliged to keep stuff because they were gifts.

I agree getting used to 'spring forward' time change can be difficult and made more so when pregnant. Hope this next week begins to be easier. If you have access to a lunch room and microwave, the fastest, easiest 'grab 'n go' is likely leftovers from the previous evening's dinner. Just make one helping more of salad, add whatever protein is at hand + a piece of fruit and handful of almonds or walnuts.

I agree. We also ended up selling a lot of the stuff that we did not need for our daughters (doubles of gifts, stuff that we already had, etc.) and it can lead to a nice bit of money! And man, those little ones will outgrow lots of stuff before they even have a chance to wear it more than once, sometimes, so a lot of the second hand stuff is as nice as (or even nicer than) the new stuff! It is really nice to have some insurance that you can save money while not worrying about whether there is enough for the baby...
