good luck with not drinking soda. in summer i always drink a lot more and winter not so much. when your body adjusts you will probably find you will be MORE energetic, because your body gets its energy from natural sources and does not rely on a sugar rush so much (and then in turn uses less energy having to deal with that being in your body too).
I think ditching the soda is a great idea, as well - doing so offers insurance for both financial as well as physical health! I think that a vacation is really important, and there are ways that you can get creative that lead to less-expensive (but still very enjoyable) getaways... good luck with everything!
